We are seeking dedicated and compassionate volunteers to support the operations of our new low-barrier shelter. Volunteers will play a key role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and organized environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. Volunteers will assist guests with a range of tasks, from check-in to check-out, and help provide essential services during evening and morning hours. Feel free to choose an evening or morning shift, preferably both shifts if you can.

Skills and Qualifications - Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness. - Strong communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations. - Ability to work well in a team, as well as independently. - Comfortable with light physical tasks (helping guests and distributing supplies). - Basic understanding of confidentiality and respecting guest privacy. - Experience in social services, healthcare, or hospitality is a plus, but not required. Training and Support - Volunteers will receive orientation and training on shelter procedures, guest privacy, and safety protocols. - Ongoing support and supervision will be provided by shelter staff throughout shifts.

- No alcohol, illegal drugs, or weapons are allowed on the premises. - Smoking is prohibited on the property. - Lights out at 10pm. No Entry into the shelter between 10pm - 6am. For safety reasons, guests are not permitted to leave, even to smoke, and return. - Respectful behavior is expected. No disruptive, threatening, and disrespectful behavior will be tolerated. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or hate-speech. If not followed, guests will be asked to leave the premises. In case of emergencies: - Contracted security is onsite. Contact them first. - Call 911 if police or emergency assistance is needed. - If mental health support is needed contact Lancaster County Crisis Intervention 717-394-2631 - Non-emergency - if in need of an ambulance, call Lancaster County Radio at 717-664-1190
